When I was about 8 or 9, I got to be a Little Brother. It was great. Years later it dawned on me what a big decision my Big had made in signing up, so when the opportunity came to help other guys considering the same decision, I jumped at the chance.

I thought if we could show that we understand what they’re thinking, offer some encouragement, and give the idea some time to sink in, that might be more effective than trying to find the magic words to convince them on the spot.
